FROM THE STUDIO BOOKSHELF
Since it’s March and we are celebrating all of the amazing Women of the past and present, I thought I would take a moment to mention some of the incredible women in fashion who have inspired me over the years. One of my favorite things to do on Sunday morning in the studio is to grab one of these books and transport my mind back in time to these opulent worlds. My absolute favorite book in the photo is “Shocking Life” the Elsa Schiaparelli autobiography. Elsa not only invented the color “Shocking Pink” but she was also the greatest rival to Coco Chanel which makes me love her even more.
Read all about it…some of my favorite books from some of my favorite designers.
Women like these have all had to fight hard for their visions in a fashion world that has always seen mostly men at the top. They all helped to pave the way for designers like myself and legions of female designers to follow. Anna Sui and Betsey Johnson were both so supportive of me when I was starting out. They both invited me to create capsule collections of hair jewelry for their boutiques in the late 1990’s.
Betsey is the definitive “girls girl”. Here we are in Las Vegas at a Sephora event in 2012 - there is so much to love about Betsey but my favorite thing is her fierce individuality and big heart.
So on this Sunday, and every day, lets take the time to support and inspire all of the amazing women in our lives. We are all so busy, overwhelmed and fighting hard every day to reach our goals (and do our laundry, and walk the dog, and pick up the kids and….) so lets also remember that we are fighting for our girls of tomorrow too.
Happy Women’s Month!
